I have a recap forthcoming, which I am excited to share, however, the purpose for this post today is to tell you about this awesome bath I took after the race, which helped relieve some of my muscle pain after the race.
I'd heard about Epsom salt from my mom, as well as from more hardcore runners than myself. According to the instructions on the packaging, all you do is put two cups of Epsom salt in the bathtub while you draw a bath, and you're good to go! Noting that the bag of Epsom salt I had in my trunk for the last year or so had a hole in it, and was probably only good for throwing down when it starts snowing or something in the next month, I made a stop at CVS after the race. There, I picked up some Epsom salt, but also spotted a couple of extra ingredients I wanted to add to my relaxation and recovery bath.
I wanted to give the bath an honest test, so I made sure that I didn't take any Aleve prior to sliding into the tub. I like my bath water to be on the hot side, that way I can ease into it, and it will also stay warmer longer, so I cranked up the hot water while I prepared the bath.
I must say, the combination of coconut and hibiscus with the peppermint and eucalyptus was divine. The aroma itself relaxed me, and I could not wait to lay in that tub until I turned into a big old raisin.
The Shea Moisture Coconut & Hibiscus Bath, Body & Massage Oil left my skin feeling absolutely amazing! My skin felt so soft, and it smelled so good! Unfortunately, only the pizza man is a witness to how I smelled, but I'm sure he would agree. :-)
I definitely felt a lot less achy after the bath, which came as a complete shock to me. I could barely slide myself into the tub at the beginning of the bath, but I had no problem getting out at the end. Once I drained the tub, I was surprised that there wasn't oil all over the tub from the oil. I suspect that the Epsom salt kept that from becoming a problem.
In case you're wondering exactly what I put in my amazingly awesome recovery bath, here is a little recipe. Let me know if you check it out! Also, for your reference, I'm including an affiliate link to the coconut & hibiscus oil, just in case they don't sell it in your neck of the woods. Note: A little goes a long way! If you end up using these ingredients for your next recovery bath, let me know how it turned out for you!
