Get Muddy, Girl!

I haven’t run a mud run in about two years. Inconceivable! I really enjoyed the last mud run I ran, and had a blast with my friends. There’s something about doing a muddy obstacle course race that makes you feel like a beast when you’re done -- even if you were sweating and rolling around in the mud like an absolute pig. :-)

In just a couple of weeks, I’ll be running the Dirty Girl Mud Run for the first time. It's a 5k with about 10-12 obstacles. This race is cool because it is the World's Largest Women's Only Mud Run! Not only that: The Dirty Girl Mud Run (DGMR) has Bright Pink as their national charity partner! According to their website, "Bright Pink is the only national non-profit organization focused on prevention and early detection of breast and ovarian cancer in young women. Our aim is to reach the 52 million young women in the United States between the ages of 18 and 45 with our innovative, life-saving breast and ovarian health programs, thereby empowering this and future generations of women to live healthier, happier, and longer lives." Sounds great, right?!

I have had people in my life who have battled breast cancer, so I am always happy to support organizations that address this horrendous disease. What's interesting about Bright Pink is that they also focus on prevention and detection of ovarian cancer. I feel like prevention and detection are two areas that are often left out of the conversation when it comes to breast and/or ovarian cancer. So there you have it! A bonus! Now you can get muddy and feel empowered with your friends, while also helping to empower other women to be proactive with reducing their risk or detecting these diseases earlier! If you don't plan to run this race, but you're interested in donating to Bright Pink, you can do so by visiting their donation page.

For this race, you receive a shirt, a medal, and great memories of conquering the mud with your homegirls. Check out this sweet video of some fabulous ladies rocking the DGMR.

Last time I ran a mud race, my friends and I wore matching shirts. I need to come up with something fun for us to wear this time around. Now that we have one under our belts, I really feel like we need to step our game up. If you have any ideas or funny phrases we should put on our shirts or sweatbands, please share them in the comments!

If you want to run this race with me for the Baltimore edition of the Dirty Girl Mud Run on May 14 (it's actually taking place at the High Point Farm in Clarksburg, Maryland -- northern Montgomery County, if you're from the area), I encourage it! Use the code MUDFLECKS to take 10% off of your race entry. And hurry! The prices keep going up!

Disclosure: I received free entry to the Dirty Girl Mud Run - Baltimore.

  1. Have you all had someone going through breast cancer? You could all have shirts saying "I'm running for_____" and each of you write names in the blanks.

  2. I've never done a mud run before. They look like a lot of fun but just haven't had a chance to participate in one.

    1. I love the girl power in the photos/video for this race. There's something extra cool about a bunch of women kicking major butt in the mud!

  3. This sounds fun and I love that it's all women supporting breast and ovarian cancer. I've done the Warrior Dash and Tough Mudder the past year, and I do have to admit I had a whole lot of fun. I wish I was more creative to give your team ideas on what to wear!

  4. Have fun!! I'm not a fan of getting dirty, so I doubt I'd ever enjoy a mud run.
