In just a little less than two weeks, I'll be running my first race in months -- the Run Inspired 10k! I haven't run a 10k in quite a while, but I also haven't run in quite a while... whoops! So, on Sunday, October 23, I'll be heading up to Winterthur, Delaware for what sounds like a totally amazing race!
This race is described as, "A challenging 10k (6.2 miles) on paved pathways that lace and intertwine through Winterthur’s rolling hills, gardens, and forests." Doesn't that sound enchanting? This is all going down at the Winterthur Museum, Garden & Library, which is supposed to be a beautiful mansion/venue. I've never been, so this will be sort of a racecation for me!
After the race, there's a finishers party with live music, food trucks, a beer garden, vendors, and family-friendly activities ALL DAY! There is a limited number of $15 VIP tickets for folks who aren't running or walking the race. Spectators who are not going VIP are asked to make donations to Operation Warm for entry. What's Operation Warm? Glad you asked!
As they say on the Run Inspired website, "Run Inspired is more than a race." What's cool is that the event benefits a nonprofit called Operation Warm, which provides brand-new coats to children living in poverty. This is so important, particularly now when the weather has just started to turn cool. How many coat drives have you seen in your neighborhood after the winter has already started? Now imagine being one of the only kids in your neighborhood without a coat, and the teasing that goes along with that. A warm coat is a necessity in the Mid-Atlantic for the winter, and no kid or adult should have to spend the winter without a coat.
I'm really excited about this race, and especially excited to promote it. Operation Warm sounds like such a great organization, and I'm happy to have the opportunity to raise awareness for their work! Interested in running the Run Inspired 10k with me? Do you have any fall races on your calendar? Are you running somewhere for the first time this fall? Have you ever raced at a mansion?
