The Week Behind, The Week Ahead

Greetings, friends! I’m back in Maryland, and I’m not gonna lie: I miss the Key West weather! I cannot wait to share my race recap and travel recap with you all, but that will come later this week. Instead, I’d like to share what I’ve been up to since my return from Florida, and what I have planned for this week.

Monday: I flew back in town from Key West. I was absolutely exhausted from a 4:30 a.m. wake up. 🙁 I didn’t have a volleyball game, and could actually take it easy most of the day.

Tuesday: Back on the grind. I had a full day’s work, followed by a volleyball match. I did something weird to my knee during the game — not sure what exactly — but generally played some decent ball.

Wednesday: Yoga class after work. It definitely felt good to get some yoga in, even though the teacher kept using some… unusual terms during the class, which I found a bit distracting (she was a sub). Despite the nagging knee, my practice wasn’t too bad!

I was so hyped about trying a new pose. Had to get photo evidence!

Thursday: I honestly couldn’t tell you what I did, which means I probably didn’t do anything after work. ::Kanye Shrug::

Friday: I was going to take yoga class at lunchtime at Extend Yoga, but that class was full. I was supposed to show our empty room to a potential roommate after work, but that ended up falling through, so I didn’t do much except for a happy hour with my coworkers. It was a pretty gloomy day. I suspect not many people in the DC Area were motivated to do to much on Friday.

Saturday: I chose to forgo the Women’s March in exchange for getting out of the area and taking my mind off of the political arena for a day (I work in politics, and the last year has been exhausting). I live pretty close to Downtown DC, so I saw tons of people heading down to the march/rally, which was encouraging. Since I was playing in a volleyball tournament up in the Baltimore Area instead, I had to leave around 8:30, and was happy to get out of dodge. My mom parked at my house, and she and my little sister went down for the march. Traffic headed toward my house was BAD (they had just beaten it). Fortunately, I went against traffic to get to the tournament.

My team ended up losing to a pretty solid team in the semifinals at our tournament. It was a bummer that we didn’t make it to the finals, but we played pretty well that final match. It was so close! We just fell apart at the end of the day, which stinks. Nonetheless, playing against good teams makes your team stronger, so I think it was a successful day regardless. The team that ended up winning the whole tournament was the only team that beat us during pool play, so I ain’t mad. I know I worked my butt off, so I’m not beating myself up about it.

Today (Sunday): I got in an amazing yoga class at Sky House Yoga. I’ll share more with you later, but I just wanted to briefly say that I thought it was a pretty cool experience. My friend Hannah is in training to teach yoga, and they hosted a free class that all of the yoga teacher trainees taught. All of them! Every few minutes, they would switch out, and it was surprisingly seamless and not at all disruptive to the energy of the class. I really enjoyed it! The best part was that those two hours of yoga really helped loosen up all of my muscles that were sore from yesterday’s tournament.

I also had a playoff game with my coed teams. It was such a bummer because we really should’ve beaten the team we played tonight. We ended up losing the first set by just two points, and the second set by four. Lame!

My goals for next week are definitely more ambitious than the week behind us. I feel like I fell off the wagon a bit. I’m not sure which wagon or how, but you know how sometimes you feel like you should be doing more, and that you can? That’s how I am feeling right about now.

I have a lot on my plate! There are some big changes coming at work, I’m planning for a wedding, and I’m getting ready to head into marathon training. These are just a few things I’m working on now. It’s exhausting just thinking about those!

Monday: Volleyball double header. I’m really hoping that my team can pull out two wins tomorrow night. We’ve really been struggling this season with some roster changes and lot of late games. I have hope!

Tuesday: More volleyball. This season is wrapping up, and I’m going to have to figure out what I want to do on Tuesday nights this coming spring.

Wednesday: Yoga. I totally love the yoga my job provides. We have a really incredible teacher, and it always feels wonderful just after work. Fingers crossed that we don’t have that sub again. Her excessive use of the word “buttocks” and “exhalation” was just… excessive.

Thursday: My fiance literally just asked me if I wanted to do something Thursday night, but I’ve already forgotten it. That’s a big fail on my part. I think he asked if I wanted to see a movie? I have no idea which one he wants to see, but I’d like to see Hidden Figures (not Hidden Fences, people!). My mom said it was really good. This needs to be a gym day, since I haven’t lifted in a couple of weeks. Depending on my plans for Saturday, this could be a leg day or an upper body day. We’ll see!

Friday: Ideally, I’d like to practice yoga this Friday. If I end up playing in a tournament on Saturday, I probably will just do yoga. If I end up not playing (hopefully I’ll know by Wednesday), I may do yoga and some running or lifting.

Saturday: Tournament day? Running day? Lifting day? Who knows? Sky House has a class called “Yoga for Athletes,” and I’d love to take that one on Saturday morning if I don’t play in the tournament. Depending on how I feel after the class, I could either run or lift. Or both, I guess, if I’m feeling ambitious.

Sunday: Next Sunday, I get a fresh start at the coed season. We’ll have a new lineup, and hopefully we can pull out a win! I may try to get some yoga in during the day, or maybe I’ll go for a hike or a walk? If we end up having a bye, which is possible, I’d like to do something active and outside of my routine for once. I’ve been wanting to try Cycled, so maybe I’ll sign up for their Sunday morning class finally. That’s been on my to-do list for MONTHS now!

Like I said, I have some ambitious goals for the week ahead. Here’s hoping I can check everything off the list!

What do you have planned for the upcoming week? Do you ever feel like you need to motivate yourself because you’re in a slump? How do you recharge and motivate yourself?
