Follain on the Brain (and the Lips!) - Flecks of Lex

Follain on the Brain (and the Lips!)

If you watched my stories over the weekend, you saw that I instantly fell in love with Follain, before I even left the Follain Bethesda Row brick-and-mortar store!

When I say Follain rocked my world (which sounds so dramatic, I know), I really mean it: Beauty, makeup, and skincare products I thought were "clean beauty" products really are not even close by Follain's standards. In fact, before I even attended the event at the store, I checked out their Restricted Ingredients list and was SHOOK! I went deep into the rabbit hole for hours (when I should've been sleeping!) and come to the following conclusion: I am going to have to throw out everything in my house!

Before I left the store on that fateful night, I wanted to buy one of everything but settled on a few skincare products (that's a separate post for another day), and a great set of lip products. I'm not a regular makeup user, and when I do use it, it's rarely heavy, so I mainly focus on a subtle lip, so filled-in brows, and maybe some simple eye makeup. Less is more for me, but I do admire a fully-beat face!

Okay, so here's what I bought:

The Lip Whip and Rose Lip Polish actually came within a Two-Toned Follain Pouch as a lip set, so I was able to save some coins from this. The Lip Conditioner I bought separately.

Keep scrolling for a review of each product!

Kari Gran Lip Whip in Tinted Peppermint

I love a good, non-sticky, long-lasting lip gloss, and the Lip Whip from Kari Gran makes my list! I love the fragrance, it lasts me almost an entire day, and there's such a subtle shine and tint that it looks mostly like you have naturally rosy lips. I tend to prefer the roller lip glosses (less messy), but this one is so good that it doesn't really bother me. I also suspect it's a lot easier to recycle a glass container than a plastic tube. I'm going to have to check my lip glosses to see if I can recycle them. I don't know if I've ever checked! 😯

Ilia Tinted Lip Conditioner in Arabian Nights

Another great product! I was honestly pretty surprised when I put on this lipstick because the color transfer was a lot more subtle than what I was expecting.  In the photo below (which is unfiltered, believe it or not!), I'm wearing the lipstick with some of the gloss on top. See how subtle the color is? It's definitely not the dark red you see on the surface, unless, of course, you want to layer more product on top. I loved the color the way it was at the first swipe, so I know this lipstick is going to last a while for me!

What's more, I didn't even have to do the whole "tissue kiss" to get the product from clumping on my lips, thereby saving even more of the product! Win-win!

French Girl Organics Rose Lip Polish

Does anyone else suffer from drier lips when the wind picks up? I got to test out the lip polish (just as I did with all of the other products) before buying, and it was so great! It's essentially a lip scrub, and because it's made with sugar, you don't have to worry about a yucky aftertaste. I love that it's moisturizing and has enough sugar to exfoliate without feeling like you're stripping the skin off of your lips! In fact, the second time I used this product, I didn't even have to add gloss once I wiped off the excess sugar!

Okay, so now what?

Follain Bethesda Row

Now that I've finally stepped inside the magical natural beauty palace that is Follain, I can say that I will be a frequent shopper. There are some really great products in Follain's online store and in their brick-and-mortar stores, and I can't wait to really try out more of their makeup products. If I can replace my current products with natural beauty products, I'll be a happy camper, and I'm sure both Mother Earth and my body will thank me!

  1. Follain is a product line/company I've never heard of before reading your review. It's great that they're focused on being all natural! I have very dry sensitive skin, so I have to be careful what I put on my face or I'll have a crazy rash everywhere. That lip color looks great on you :-)

    1. I have super sensitive skin too! I think natural products rock - not just because my skin likes them better, but because Mother Nature likes them better too!

  2. I have not heard of this brand, but I will have to check it out. I'm very careful about what I put on my skin (usually nothing these days), so I really love the fact that these products are all natural. Thanks for introducing me to them!

    1. You do! And if you ever come out here to Bethesda to check out their store (it's the only one in the area now - 6 nationally), let me know and we can grab a bite and/or a drink!

  5. I read once somewhere that women eat several pounds of lipstick a year just by wearing it, so it makes sense to use something natural! I'm def going to check this out!
