I Got My First Bra Fitting in Years, and Now My Mind is Blown!

Have you listened to the new podcast I'm co-hosting, the Fit Black Queens Podcast? We interviewed The Philly Bra Lady on a recent episode, and she taught me so much about bra care, maintenance, and basic facts. I thought I was pretty knowledgeable, but it turns out I know nothing, Jon Snow. It was because of this interview that I decided to go for a bra fitting.

It had been way too long since my last bra fitting. In fact, I don't even remember the last time I had it done! Was it less than 10 years ago? More than 10 years? I honestly can't remember, which is a big problem. According to the ladies at Soma Intimates, I should've had my last one last year. Whoops!

I met up with my homie Tikima at the Soma Intimates in Westfield Montgomery. We immediately asked the first sales associates who approached us, Stephanie, for bra fittings. We went into our separate rooms, and Stephanie started bringing us bras. I was totally shocked by the first bra size she brought me! I knew the band size was going to be too big, but I wasn't sure about the cup size.

After trying on the baggiest bra ever (okay, that may be a bit dramatic), Stephanie got me into the right band size and cup size. I. Was. Shooketh. My band size was pretty much what I suspected, but the cup size was something that seriously stunned me. Two letters?! What the what?!
Being frank with you guys, I'm basically Roberta from Now and Then. For the most part, I'm constantly disguising my bust situation (minus the duct tape like she used in the movie. Ouch!) if not just flat out living in denial about it. I've shared before how I believe I went through a make-believe illness called Delayed Onset Adult Puberty which led me to grow two full cup sizes in about a year. I don't have a clue what to do with them most of the time, so I just store them away for safekeeping, I suppose. I think most people would be surprised if I told them my cup size because they're just always hidden. Heck, it's surprising to me! So, imagine how much more surprised I was when I found out that I was wearing a cup size too small. Dang it! That means I have to buy more bras now!

And buy new bras I did. Four to be exact.

Getting into the right bra size felt absolutely amazing! No shoulder discomfort, no spilling out, no weird underwire issues. So this is how it's supposed to feel!

I picked up some care tips that have proven extremely useful over the last few weeks. I'm hoping these bras will stay in pretty good shape for the next six months so that I can phase in some other new ones. If it works out, I'll be sure to share these tips with you guys!

In the meantime, I now have to reassess my sports bras. 😩 I'm hoping that I don't really have to buy any new high-impact sports bras, but I wouldn't be surprised if I did. Some of my high-impact bras just don't feel like they are doing the trick. These suckers are not cheap, so I'm not enthused about having to go out and buy a bunch more bras, but it definitely is an investment in your health. Listen to that episode I linked at the beginning of this post if you need to get scared straight!

Have you ever had a bra fitting? Did you know you're supposed to get them done annually? Have you listened to the podcast episode yet?
