October at Trader Joe's: Things I'm Trying This Month

Last month, I started a new series where I share some of the new-to-me items I pick up at my favorite grocery store, Trader Joe's. TJ's is always changing up items and adding new spices and such, which is perfect for a foodie like me! I love stretching my chef brain and trying out new flavor combinations in the kitchen.

This month kicked off with John's birthday, and he shared that he wanted Indian food for dinner. He always prefers homecooked meals, so I stopped by TJ's to see what they had to supplement the curried shrimp I was planning to make.

Before I get into the specifics around what I purchased and how it all worked out (since I was actually able to try everything before writing this post!), I have a confession.

I fell for the pumpkin trap. Just a little bit.

By the time October rolled around, I could only resist pumpkin but so much. If not now, then when?

Now, let's get into these October Trader Joe's goodies, shall we?

Spicy Pumpkin Samosas

These were good! They only had a little kick to them, and they paired well with some mango ginger chutney I had. We had these as appetizers for John's birthday dinner, and it was such a great way to kick off that meal! I would recommend some kind of dipping sauce to go with them, but they were pretty good on their own.

Madras Lentils

There was nothing special about these, but they did the trick. To me, it's kind of hard to mess up lentils. If you dry out lentils and serve them to me, I'm going to be upset, but that's pretty much the only way you're going to ruin lentils for me. These were good, and I'd likely buy them again, but I definitely wouldn't go out of my way to pick them up.

Pumpkin Cheesecake

Okay, so this was pretty good. You have to thaw it out first, but cheesecake is my favorite dessert (cheese + cake = what's not to love?!), so I probably wouldn't have been disappointed regardless. We each had a little slice since we were so full from dinner, and we shared slices with our family the following day. That little cheesecake lasted quite a while, and it was totally worth it! I'd probably buy this again.

Pumpkin Brioche Twist

My plan was to use this bread to make French toast, which I did; however, it was a heck of a lot harder than I thought it was going to be! The bread came apart fairly easily, and you had to peel off the outer layer of paper, but that French toast was SO GOOD! I wasn't getting much pumpkin flavor from it, but the finished product was delicious. I probably wouldn't buy this again for French toast, so I don't know that I'd have a reason to buy it again.

Cookie Butter Ice Cream

Apparently, I am 2000 and late when it comes to this ice cream. When I told some of my friends about it, they were all shocked I had never heard of it before! I'm glad I did, though, because this ice cream was amazing! I will definitely be buying this ice cream again, and the real challenge will be not eating it all in one sitting, or buying out the entire supply at my local TJ's!

"Everything But The Gluten" Crackers

I started carb cycling again (I had to stop after a few days because stress took over, which led to stress eating to get me through it), and one of the items on my meal plan is Mary's Gone Crackers. Unfortunately, they don't carry this brand at my TJ's, so I had to track down some gluten-free crackers. Fortunately, the staff at TJ's is always so friendly (really doesn't matter which location), and a member of their team pointed me in the right direction. There was really no way I was going to find it on my own!

These crackers are delicious! I love the flavor and how dense/filling they are! I will definitely be buying more of these in the future.

Broccoli Slaw

This broccoli slaw was great in my rice bowls! Sometimes I sauteed a serving, while other times, I ate it raw. This is good to have on hand, and I think it may be a product that they carry year-round that I just never actually tried. I will be buying more of this one too!

Salmon Burgers

I always go for the mahi-mahi burgers at TJ's, but these salmon burgers are the truth! They are so easy to heat up, and they're really delicious! I've splashed a little coconut aminos on one of these bad boys and had them with the broccoli slaw. This is such a quick and easy meal, and it's so yummy! I highly recommend these burgers!

What's Next?

I am so excited for all of the peppermint everything that I'm sure will be poking its head out in November! Winter flavors always make me feel so warm and cozy, and I know that Trader Joe's delivers.

Are there any items you recommend picking up on my next trip to Trader Joe's? Share it in the comments!
