When we challenge ourselves in a workout, we are asking a lot of our bodies. When the workout is complete, it’s time to thank our body, and what better way than with proper recovery?

Recovery is so important! It enables us to repair our bodies so that we can continue to reach our goals – whether that’s walking your first 5k, completing a triathlon, or hiking the Appalachian Trail! I have been focusing more on my recovery routine over the last couple of months in particular because I’ve started to notice some tightness in specific areas that I know are due to overuse and under stretching. My hip flexors and IT band have been so angry at me for the last few weeks because I have been neglecting them. I know that, as I train for this 10-miler I have next month, I am going to have to up my recovery game, and so that’s what I’ve been working on!

Recovery Essentials

Stretching, hydrating, and replenishing are essential for a successful recovery. Today, I’m recovering with this NOW Sports drink: L-Glutamine Powder, BCAA Big 6 in Grape Flavor, and Effer Hydrate in Orange Strawberry. I also added a splash of lime juice and honey to this drink to elevate the tropical flavor – perfect for a hot day!

What I love about NOW is that all of their products are quality and purity tested in their world-class labs, ensuring that what’s on the label matches what’s in the bottle!

NOW Sports products are formulated using the latest clinical research and scientifically proven ingredients – PLUS, all products contain natural ingredients and absolutely no artificial colors, flavors, or sweeteners. Only the good stuff!

Mini Yoga Flow

In this video, we’re going to cool down and recover with some restorative yoga poses. This is a great post-workout stretch, but can also be used on your recovery day – whether that’s an active recovery day or a full recovery day. This cool-down flow will target the low back, thoracic spine (upper and mid-back), hips, shoulders, and chest. If you’ve just completed a workout, this will also help you bring your heart rate back down from its elevated post-workout state.

Now that you’ve gone through this short yoga flow, you should feel a little restoration throughout your body.

Make sure you are properly hydrated before, during, and after your workout (yes, that means during your recovery cycle as well!). Remember, if you stay hydrated, you don’t have to get hydrated!
